Vice President of Finance- FT – Exempt - Financial Center First CU

Salary Range:$85,000.00 To 130,000.00 Annually

PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this position is to fulfill our vision of inspiring financial wellness.  The position must deliver high quality service to both internal and external members by supporting and promoting our values to Care, Listen, Learn, Solve, and Act. In addition, the position assists with establishing, coordinating and maintaining an accounting system that properly reflects the financial position of the Credit Union as well as overseeing the Member Solutions (Collections) functions of the credit union.

 Essential Duties: 

  • Recommends policies and procedures to improve service, efficiency, or controls
  • Continually reviews aspects of the accounting program and recommends proposals to the CFO for improving all aspects of assigned responsibilities
  • Maintains a classification system for new and established general ledger accounts to meet the reporting requirements of all the various regulatory authorities
  • Provides department managers with specific operating and financial data
  • Supervises and coordinates the preparation of financial reports for management, Board of Directors, government agencies, and external parties
  • Includes, but is not limited to, preparing the quarterly Call Report for the NCUA/DFI as well as preparing the annual block-out for the CU’s annual opinion audit
  • Works with the CFO and the Budget Committee in preparation of annual or as needed budgets for use by management based on input and assistance from staff members
  • Discusses and clarifies approvals and revisions with those affected
  • Oversees the preparation of the Accounting budget along with the Member Solutions budget and reviews departmental compliance with approved budgets
  • Prepares management reports that compare actual versus planned budgetary performance
  • Responsible for ensuring credit union adheres to all components of organizational budget
  • Performs detailed statistical analysis on individual income and expense items to identify the basis for deviations and reviews results with appropriate personnel
  • Participate on Board Committees that include, but are not limited to, the Investment and Budget Committees
  • Assist in preparation of committee packets, including the agenda, and all relevant supporting data
  • Board meeting attendance may be required as needed. Will also lead sections of the committee meetings
  • Provides other departments with information required by them to carry out their assigned responsibilities
  • Routinely review management information needs of Credit Union personnel and modifies the reporting system as necessary
  • Accounts for all Credit Union investments, maintaining files on all applicable documents
  • Audits certificates received to ensure promptness and accuracy
  • Maintains sub-ledgers on investments and calculates accrued income monthly
  • Ensures that investments are opened, maintained and closed properly
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with the Credit Union’s Investment Policy
  • Reviews and analyzes general ledger accounts monthly to assure that established accounting procedures are being followed and that all sub-ledgers are in balance
  • Reconciling items are kept to a minimum and appropriate action is taken to ensure these items are cleared quickly
  • Establishes and implements operating procedures to ensure proper internal controls in all accounting related areas
  • Works with the AVP Accounting to ensure that all Accounting policies and procedures are in line with current federal, state, or local regulations
  • Proposes needed changes as regulations are introduced or changed
  • Forecasts cash requirements and obligations to maintain adequate funds
  • Analyzes the Credit Union’s cash flow and makes recommendations to improve the efficient use of and/or rate of return on excess funds
  • Assures protection of the assets of the Credit Union through effective internal controls, internal auditing and assisting in the annual insurance coverage renewal
  • Maintains the Credit Union’s ALM software (Profitstar)
  • Prepares and analyzes asset and liability management (ALM) reports and makes recommendations to management for improvement
  • Review ALM reports to assess credit union’s compliance with specific goals as established by Credit Union policies and plans
  • Prepares on own initiative or as directed in-depth studies and cost analysis on various programs, branches, and departments
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining pricing policies  
  • Tests and maintains records to ensure correctness of member share accounts and general ledger accounts
  • Reviews and supervises the maintenance of the financial records of the CUSOs including posting to the general ledger system, preparation of reports, and administering tax-related matters
  • Interacts with credit union vendors and business partners
  • Analyze vendor data and service levels for compliance with contractual requirements.   Assist in negotiating timely, favorable contractual terms with existing and potential vendors
  • Coordinate and manage projects as assigned or by own initiative.  Project management responsibilities may include organizing and chairing a committee.
  • Prepares on a monthly basis the Credit Union’s Allowance for Loan and Lease Loss calculation.   Works with the CFO to improve this methodology.
  • Administrator of the Credit Union’s GL software
  • Provides executive management and support of the Accounting and Members Solutions Departments
  • Oversees the Member Solutions Department
  • Works with the AVP Member Solutions to ensure that all collection policies and procedures are in line with current federal, state, or local regulations
  • Ensures that all required tax reporting is completed accurately and timely

 Required Background:

  • Must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or a directly related field
  • Must have at least 7-10 years finance and accounting managerial experience, preferably with a financial institution
  • Must be familiar with IRS and state tax laws as they relate to informational returns, personnel tax reporting, and income tax returns (CUSO) 
  • Must have supervisory experience and have the ability to lead and motivate others
  • Must be thoroughly knowledgeable within six months of credit union accounting and member solution procedures
  • Must be able to prepare and interpret a wide variety of financial reports
  • Must be familiar with Asset Liability Management
  • Must be thoroughly knowledgeable within six months of the Credit Union’s core computer system and be able to follow all transactions and know how they affect members record and the general ledger
  • Must have strong PC skills including the ability to create complex spreadsheets and databases
  • Must be thoroughly knowledgeable of the federal laws, bylaws and all government regulations applicable to the Credit Union.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of security in performing the duties included within this job description
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Should have the ability to speak before medium sized groups of employees and others.


Work Environment: The work requires physical mobility within all areas of the main office and occasional local travel.  The work is performed in an office or meeting room but requires frequent hands-on involvement throughout the entire Credit Union area of responsibility.
